My Father started his sailing in the Walton Backwaters in the 1920's, he first managed to buy an open clinker built sailing dinghy in the early 30's for £7 - 10s! He later graduated in partnership with my Godfather to a converted ship's lifeboat "Avanti" in which they and their prospective wives had great enjoyment, but the clouds of war were gathering, and after being laid upthroughout WW2, they sold her in 1945.
